About Me
I am a working artist and an illustrator for children’s books. I’m currently writing and illustrating my own stories for children, and working on a graphic novel.
My illustrations have been published by Random House, Putnam Grossett, Scholastic Books, Houghton Mifflin, and others. My best known titles are The Bravest Dog Ever, the True Story of Balto and The Headless Horseman, both by Natalie Standiford, Abe Lincoln’s Hat by Martha Brenner, and Pirates by Dina Annastasio.
My pastels, watercolors, drawings, and hand colored prints have been exhibited throughout New York State, in Saratoga Springs and Dobbs Ferry, as well as in solo shows in Greenwich and Ithaca — and most recently at Galeria Rustica in Easton.
I live off the grid and off the beaten path in rural Washington County, NY with my wife Lili and our cat Regalito.
How I Work
Stories make pictures in your head.
Pictures make stories in your head.
I work with both pictures and stories. My intent is to feed the spirits of human beings, both children and adults.
I combine images and words to create illustrated narratives for children, and for anyone who remembers being a child. My subjects are life, love, wildness, time, and our quest to discover who we are.
For those who are no longer children I create landscape, still life, and figural art. I seek to reveal something hidden in plain sight; the mystery, the depth of feeling, the unconscious power in places, familiar objects, and in the bodies which we inhabit through a lifetime. These are the things which root us in nature, in soul or spirit, and in the continuity of human life.
